BREAKING: Police disrupt, teargas Obi supporters rally in Abakaliki
There was tension on Saturday morning as personnel of the Nigeria Police disrupted and teargassed supporters of the 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State.
The ‘Obidients’ as popularly called gathered in large numbers along Mile 50 area to embark on a rally to canvass support for their candidate before they were disrupted and crudely treated by the Police.
A supporter and member of the Labour party in Ebonyi State, Nwali Ikechukwu after escaping from the police brutality told journalists that some of the party supporters were wounded, while others were arrested.
It is not yet clear the exact reason for the police action but the spokesman for the Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Chris Anyanwu, could not be immediately reached for comments.
Meanwhile a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who didn’t disclose her name expressed concern that the Labour Party was growing in Ebonyi State, noting that if care wasn’t taken, they will capture the seat of power in the State.
