Edo guber: APC governors on solidarity visit to Obaseki, tell him not to join PDP over disqualification
Some governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have paid a solidarity visit to the governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki who was disqualified by the screening panel from contesting the June 22 primary election.
The governors who visited him on Saturday persuaded him not to dump the APC for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on ground of his disqualification.
The governors who were ten in number asked him to endure and be patient with the development.
CAPITAL POST reports on Friday that following Obaseki’s disqualification from contesting the governorship primary election slated for June 22 in the state, he registered with PDP in Ward 4 in Oredo Local Government of Edo State.
There were reports Obaseki was considering moving to the opposition party with all the Chairmen of the 18 Local Government Areas and 12 House of Assembly members.
Obaseki’s plans to dump the APC was confirmed by one of his Aide, who said:
“I just returned from the government House where we had a marathon meeting over the vexatious issue.
“And as you asked, yes, we are considering moving to the PDP, all of us. But we are still weighing every option.
“As I speak with you, the Governor is on his way to Abuja, but I don’t know what exactly his mission there is.
“I can also authoritatively inform you that 10 Governors from the north were in Benin today. They were at the government house to persuade him (Obaseki) not to leave the party,” he said.
The screening committee set up by the National Working Committee of the APC, has disqualified Obaseki from participating in the governorship primaries over alleged discrepancies in the academic qualifications and NYSC discharge certificate he presented for screening.
