June 12: ADP tells Buhari to sign electoral act, stop excessive borrowing

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari, to sign the amended electoral act in order to strenghten the nation’s future polls.

In a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Prince Adelaja Adeoye, the party reminded the Federal Government that the founding fathers have sacrificed enough for their ideals to be upheld.

Part of the statement to mark the ADP’s Democracy Day address which was sent to CAPITAL POST stated: “Many patriots and our founding fathers, have sacrificed hugely.

“Some of them like the late MKO Abiola, eventually lost their lives in the quest to achieve a better and relatively stable political environment, after seizure by the military jackboots, to reflect the nation’s electoral process that will enhance democratic space.

“June 12, has become a symbolic date in the life of our nation.

“The date was set aside as a democracy day, not only to celebrate the great sacrifices of our heroes past, but who fought tirelessly for the return of democracy.

“June 12, was a struggle for the emancipation of our country, from brutal dictators, and those with power, who never wanted oppositions.

“Those who made our return to democracy possible must always be celebrated through the enhancement of our democratic space.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as a matter of federal legislation, must be able to conduct free and fair elections, that will be technologically driven, as the world system is gradually changing.

“There must be seamless voting, which must include e-voting, and work on making ballot box snatching useless.

The party called on President Buhari to leverage on his experience and end insurgency attacks in Nigeria.

The party lamented the excessive external borrowing, saying that the trend would endanger the future of Nigerians, if it continues.
