The Director General of National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Dr Dan-Azumi Mohammed Ibrahim came under investigation by the House of Representatives over fraudulent purchase of vehicles at a whopping cost of N46 billion.

The lower legislative Chamber expressed shock that such humongous amount of money was spent without budgetary provisions and demanded for in-depth explanations on purchase of N46 billion vehicles, and N23 million stationery.

Trouble started when the House of Representatives Committee on Finance discovered the irregular manner with which the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion handles its finances.

The committee insisted that status investigation of NOTAP must be conducted to make the agency DG explain to Nigerians some expenditure heads in its 2021 budget.

“One of them is the procurement of vehicles at the cost of N46 billion.

“Another is the sum of over N23 million NOTAP spent on office stationery in 2021.

The figures came to light at the ongoing interactive sessions with government agencies on the 2023-2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) by the committee.

The Deputy Chairman of the committee, Hon. Sa’idu Abdullahi, who presided over proceedings at the National Assembly in Abuja, also said the committee would carry out a status enquiry on the financial operations of the agency.

NOTAP was given next week to reappear before the committee to make the explanations.

Hon. James Abiodun Faleke is the Chairman of House Committee on Finance, but but represented by his Vice, Hon. Sa’idu Abdullahi who presided over the meeting.
