Police parades soldier turned bandits arms supplier in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command have arrested a soldier who confessed to have left the military last year to be supplying arms and ammunition to Zamfara based bandits.

The suspect made the confession while being paraded at the Police Command in Gusau, saying he purposely left the military for arms business.

Change of Name

The suspect who was identified as Sa’idu Lawal was arrested after credible intelligence was obtained by the security operatives.

He also revealed names of his partners in crime which the police are deepening their investigations.

According to him, he last served at the 73 Battalion Janguza Army Barracks Kano from where he went into arms and ammunition suppliers to terrorists.

He explained that he left the Nigerian Army after some years of service to first start the business of transporting tomatoes from Kano to Abuja, before he was introduced to the business of arms supplier to terrorists by his elder brother.

Sa’idu disclosed that his first deal was done early this year and he was paid a total of N200,000, disclosing that half of the money was given to him before he transported the ammunition and the other half was paid when he returned.

Sa’idu was arrested by security operatives along Kaduna- Abuja highway while on his way to supply weapons to Dogo Hamza, a notorious bandit leader terrorising communities in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to Sa’idu Lawal, he collected N100,000 for the transportation of two AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, and 501 live ammunition.
