In line with its mandate of coordinating resources for disaster management at the levels of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery, NEMA has ensured the continuous improvement in not only it’
s various frameworks, manpower development but also in the aspects of its equipment holdings.

This imperative geared the recent decision of NEMA to radicalize service delivery through new ways and manners between field commanders and the agency headquarters elements in tandem with international best practices of incident command systems.

At an event on Wednesday afternoon, the Director General of NEMA, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, unveiled the Agency’s new strategic communications frameworks; the Digital Push- to- Talk over Cellular (PoC), broadband communication infrastructure and Hytera devices.

Hytera radios are world class next generation technologies that helps industries around the world to be more efficient, effective and agile in their operations.

In his speech, the DG NEMA, elaborated on the effectiveness of the devices.

“The Agency has acquired four categories of the radios:PN380, PNC550 and PDC550; to create better interface between its operational and tactical actors. The radios are multi- mode handheld devices, capable of working as two way radio on UHF frequencies (400-470MHz) or on cellular LTE.

They are rugged, compact in design and IP68 rated. As military standard MIL-STS-810G, they are drop proof and suitable for use in even the harshest of environments.

The radios will facilitate rapid deployment during emergencies through the digital wireless ad-hoc repeaters. The location display would also ensure easy command and control, which makes it extremely useful for on-site operations.”

He further stated that the radios have the capacity to go on live streams, audio communication and ability to send and receive texts as well as installed GPS for fast tracking and retrieval in the event of loss is an added leverage to the agency.

The DG also expressed his profound gratitude to the President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, for his trust and encouragement in terms of grants and approvals to the Agency.
