The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senate caucus has been tasked to challenge the excessive borrowing of the Federal Government, saying that the trend was becoming an embarrassment to the nation.

National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus handed out the task while briefing newsmen after about three hours marathon meeting, said the debt burden is already weighing heavily on the country to the extent that “very soon it would find it difficult to breath politically and economically”

Explaining further he said, “We are also worried about the continuous borrowing by the executive arm of Government, if it continues like this, Nigerians would be feeling the pains on their neck and it will get to a point if we continue to borrow the way the executive arm is going, it will be difficult to breath both politically and economically.
“So this must come to an end, there must be an end to borrowing. Those are the issues we have asked our senators to raise in the senate.”

On whether they expect the senators to stage a walkout if they position is not respected based on their minority in terms of numerical strength he said they know what to do at the appropriate time.
He said another burning issue is the electoral reform which he said they also tabled before the senate caucus of PDP especially following outcomes of recent elections in some States that were fraught with violence, intimidation, use of arms and ammunition to win at all costs.

He said, “The issue of electoral reforms which is also on our minds and on the minds of Nigerians can not be postponed any further.

The chairman said they want the PDP caucus to press it harder for the reforms to be achieved soonest so there can be freer and fairer elections in the country.

He said their meeting with the PDP caucus in the senate was very useful especially on discussion about the happenings in the National Assembly.
On the Edo State Governorship processes he said they were ongoing.

“The processes have started yesterday with the three man’s delegate election. On the 19th is the congress proper.’
The senate minority leader Eyinanya Abaribe earlier indicated that all the matters that affects senators were all discussed and were satisfactorily resolved.

“And like I said it is normal that there are disagreement between political parties and we can be very certain that these disagreements can easily be resolved when you understand each other and when you have meetings of this nature which we have done.”
“The senators are very happy and we are on the same page with the party. PDP us strong and PDP is united.”
