Jos Market: Jos North LGC stakeholders endorse Jaiz Bank rebuilding of burnt market
Stakeholders of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State have supported the plans by Governor Simon Lalong to rebuild the Jos Main Market that was burnt as a result of the crisis in 2001.
The Stakeholders which comprise all the ethnic groups in the Local Government made known their resolution during a press conference on Tuesday held at Lamonde Hotel Jos.
Leader of the stakeholders, Elder Bitrus Pada of the Anaguta Community who read the resolution after their meeting said the people of Jos North are fully in support of the laudable move and effort of the Lalong administration to rebuild the market.
Pada said it’s the desire and collective aspiration of the people that the burnt Jos Main Market should be rebuilt.
“We agree that the State Government’s effort should be intensified towards rebuilding the market as the market serves as a symbol of Unity, a source of integration and a Place for synergy for meaningful development.
According to the stakeholders, said the rebuilding of the market will further enhance and solidify the efforts toward enhancing trust, Peace, unity and reintegration of the people.
They call on the state government to go ahead with thier planned action as this will bring development and launch the state to the world
Former Speaker of the PLHA Rt Hon Peter A Azi also handed over a copy of resolution of the entire Stakeholders in Jos North with their signatures to the Member Representing Jos North North Rt.Hon.Ibrahim Baba Hassan.
Also a copy of the resolution was handed over to the Secretary to the Plateau State Government Professor Danladi Atu for onwards presentation to the Governor.
It would be recalled that the Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos, on Monday adjourned to August 30, 2022 for the continued hearing of a suit filed by the member representing Jos East/Jos Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos challenged Governor Simon Lalong, the state government, the Attorney General and the Commissioner for Justice over the planned signing of an MoU with Jaiz Bank to rebuild the Jos Main Market.
The Jos Main Market was burnt down during the crisis of 2001 with over 3700 shops destroyed which has affected the sources of livelihood of traders in the market.
Hon. Bagos had secured a court injunction restraining the state government from signing a MoU with Jaiz Bank for the reconstruction of the market.
The injunction, which was granted August 2, 2022 by Justice S. P Gang, restrained the state government from signing any MOU with Jaiz Bank pending a hearing of the substantive suit.
