The Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi has met with Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike for the second time amid defection rumour.

Obi sneaked into PorthHarcourt on Monday night where he met Wike at a closed door at his private residence.

Change of Name

The former Anambra governor’s meeting with Wike may not be unconnected with his presidential ambition on the platform of the Labour Party ahead of 2023.

Wike was a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and is currently battling the party on a number of issues and hard-to-meet conditions before allowing peace to reign, including the removal of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman.

Obi was also a former presidential aspirant on the PDP platform, before he defected to the Labour Party with a Northern politician and educationist, Baba Datti-Ahmed as his running mate.

However, other PDP stalwarts were also in PorthHarcourt to meet Wike. They are, Olusegun Mimiko, a former Governor of Ondo State and a chieftain of the PDP in Ondo State; Donald Duke, a former Cross River State Governor; PDP’s Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, a former Gombe State governor; PDP’s Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State; and Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor of Abia State (PDP).
