Insecurity: Maiduguri safer than Abuja – Senator Ndume
Senator representing Borno South Senatorial district, Ali Ndume has maintained that there was improvement in security now than what it used to be few years ago.
The Senate Committee Chairman stated this in an interview with Channels Television on Monday saying, “even Maiduguri is safer than Abuja”, which is the seat of the Federal government of Nigeria.
The lawmaker said, “Northeast is a bit peaceful now as compared to how it was years ago, and that Maiduguri is relatively safer than Abuja as we speak.”
He however added that the Military do not have what it takes to tackle terrorism, stressing that their salary was not forthcoming as at when due in other to boost their morale well enough.
He enjoined Nigerians not to leave the battle against terrorists for security agents alone, while urging the Federal government to recruit more police officers, stressing that 400,000 officers cannot secure the lives of over 200 million people.
Ndume lamented that a relative of his who went to farm in the North East was shot by bandits, while another one was killed last week.
He said these terrorists are using motorcycles to attack various communities, yet military men have not been able to effectively neutralize them, stating that they don’t have the number and the fighting force.
