Khalidou Koulibaly broke the deadlock with a great volley following a well-executed corner kick that went directly to the Senegalese defender in the 19th minute.
Sessegnon had the chance to equalise but the Benjamin Mendy was equal to the task and denied the Tottenham player from close range.
Koulibaly had an acrobatic display that flew over the bar just before the cooling break, the effort went wide the mark but the defender was left unmarked in the opponent’s dangerous area.
Tottenham had a break on the counter but Recee James had to foul Son to prevent Spurs from getting an equaliser and the referee had no choice but to flash the Chelsea defender a yellow card.
Tottenham had the early chance in the second half but Mendy was up to the task as he stopped Son from scoring, Sterling had a chance but his effort flew wide, and Harry Kane had a clear opportunity missed when he was played onside by Chelsea’s defence.
Richarlison was brought in for Sessessgnon, the Brazilian inclusion helped Tottenham to have some control and assert some form of the competition after a lacklustre game in the first half.
Tottenham got the equaliser from a controversial play build-up but the referee was not interested in the tackle on Havertz and the resulting ball resulted in the goal with Pierre Emile Hojbjerg in the 68th minute.
Chelsea made it 2-1 from a nice build-up with Sterling laying an assist to James in the 77th minute.
