2023: Ex-Adamawa governor sues for peace
Christians in Nigeria have been advised to eschew all form of violence in forthcoming general election.
Former governor of Adamawa State, Bala James Ngilari gave the advice at the National Praise Declaration for Peace event held on Thursday in Abuja.
James admonished christians to be the light of the world and unifier even as they exercise their franchise in the elections that will produce the crop of political leaders that will govern the country for the next four years.
He said “As Christians, we can be light to the world and we can be the rallying point and unifiers, not only to Christians but to other Nigerians. They will see that indeed, these people are united.
“There is so much God has given us in this country, consequently, if you give me the citizenship of another country, free of charge, I will reject it because there is no better country than Nigeria. God has given us everything, it is for us to make sure the resources God has given us are used for the betterment of all of us.
“If you are contesting an election and you don’t get it this time around, don’t scatter the votes, hold on, it will be greater for you in the future. Don’t scatter the nation’s affairs, pray for the winners, your time will come”.
The Convener of the National Praise Declaration for Peace, Pastor Fidelis Chukwuemeka ascribed the strength of a christian especially in difficult situation to praise. Linking it to the challenges Nigeria is currently facing, he said, praise is the necessary ingredients to conquer.
“In our present situation, everyone is calling on God to fight for them, but the only time God fights for us is when we praise. And that is the instruction he gave us; that we should flood the land with praise because he wants to fight and give us peace in our land to enable us to have a successful election”,he added.
Also speaking, Co-Convener of the event, Dr Dolly Simon said the praise programme will be held in the six geographical zones of the country.
“We are going to have this programme in the six geopolitical zones and we are calling for God’s intervention in our land. It is obvious that the country is no longer safe, and the wisdom of our leaders has failed.
“The only person that can save this country today is God because the situation is getting terrible and terrible by the day. That’s why we organised this praise and worship and God said when we praise him, he is going to fight for us. We are asking God to fight for Nigerians”, he said.
Dr Dolly further advised Nigerians not to be divided across religious lines but to be united and cast their votes as patriotic citizens.
He said “Vote the candidate you want devoid of religion, let us get a good leader that can give us a new phase of life, whether from the North, South, East or West. Somebody that will lead Nigeria out of this challenge we are facing”.
