A group under the aegis of Atiku Youth Wing has appealed to youths in the country to support the actualization of former vice president of Nigeria and presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Waziri Atiku Abubakar for the presidency in the 2023 general elections.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, the team lead of the group, Kalgo Idris Ibrahim, called for overwhelming solidarity for the PDP presidential aspirant, stating that he has vowed to ensure youth inclusion in governance if elected. According to him, Atiku Abubakar has already promised to allocate 40% slots for youth and women in his cabinet.

Change of Name

He also assured that the emergence of the former vice president as the commander of the chief of the armed forces in 2023 will address the incessant strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the which the youths are the most affected.

The group also described Atiku as a unifier who will address the division and agitation from various quarters and region of the country.

“We are all aware of the trying moments our beloved country faces at the moment and as such we believe that there is no better time than now to make this clarion call to every Nigerian who is eligible to vote to own up to perform her civil responsibility by accepting to vote and wisely too.

“As stakeholders in the Nigerian project, the now and the future depends on us. I thereby appeal to everyone to rise to the occasion for the sake of our beloved country. We are more divided than together by reason of failure of governance in meeting with her primary responsibility.

“The poor level infrastructures, poor health facilities, dilapidated education system and structures, the continuous fall of naira and many more, show that the government has no ‘will’ to better the will of Nigerians. In this manner, we must bring a unifier as a man of the moment and for the hour. As a former vice president of the federal republic of Nigeria, we believe in his experience to fix Nigeria.

“Taking into consideration the now incessant and prolonged industrial action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike. We want to accordingly assure our brothers and sisters that with the victory of his excellency at the polls come 2023 general elections, there will be a complete reversal of this perennial cases of strike that have crippled effective development of our youth”, he added.

The Atiku Youth Wing however urged youths in the country to maintain peace and decorum during the campaign for the general election.
