PART 1; TITHING

what is tithe?
a. Tithe simply means one tenth of annual produce or earnings formally taken as a tax for the support of the church or clergy.

b. Tithe is the tenth part of something paid as a voluntary contribution or as a tax especially for the support of a religious establishment.

c. Tithe is a covenant obligation entered by every child of God.

c. According to Leviticus 27 vs 30
A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord. it is holy to the Lord.

God is the giver of everything. The source of life that provide the opportunity and strength to carry out the activities that generates productivity and wealth.
When tithe is given, it’s a way of acknowledging the source of the substance and benefits received which is all tied to covenant obedience of tithing.

WHY DO WE PAY TITHE?
1. For the support of the needs of the pastor and the work of the local church

2. The local church uses it to help others in need

3. To build the spirit of man and steer away being greedy or loving money too much.

4. It’s a spiritual obligation from the Creator as seen in Malachi chapter 3 vs 8-10

5. It’s a way of honouring the Creator.

6. For the spreading of the gospel.

SCRIPTURAL EVIDENCES ON TITHING

a. WHAT DOES THE BIBLE REALLY SAYS ABOUT TITHE?

Leviticus 27:30 (TLB) says:
A tenth of the produce of the land, whether grain or fruit, is the Lord’s, and is holy.

Proverbs 3:9 (NIV) says:
Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops.

Malachi 3:8-12 (AMP) says:
Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings [you have withheld]. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me, this whole nation! Bring all the tithes (the tenth) into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you [so great] a blessing until there is no more room to receive it. Then I will rebuke the devourer (insects, plague) for your sake and he will not destroy the fruits of the ground, nor will your vine in the field drop its grapes [before harvest],” says the Lord of hosts. “All nations shall call you happy and blessed, for you shall be a land of delight,” says the Lord of hosts.

1. Malachi 3 vs 1-8
2. Genesis 14:20
3. Numbers 18:21-28
4. Matthew 21:22
5. 2nd Corinthians 3:3-6
6. Matthew 23:23

There will be abundance of provision

God will bless the tither

God will rebuke devourers

*We shall be called the blessed and happy people of God the tither*

TITHE AND TAX

Tithe is ten percent paid to God as instructed

While

Tax is also a percentage of income on sales paid to the government.

Just as the tax individuals pay to aid government growth so also is applicable to those who pay their tithe it’s aids their upward movement in life.

As children of God we have access to the promise of God in Deuteronomy chapter 29 and 30 if only we apply ourselves to the covenant of tithing as seen in Malachi 3 : 8-10

He promised us supernatural defence.

He promised us supernatural provision

He promised us supernatural health and so on.

Today so many of us as children of God we Rob God directly but we say how did I Rob God?

The response is clear in Malachi chapter 3 vs 8

*If God says test me and see,Is it not too simple a thing to do ,You either obey or leave it,It doesn’t change the fact is biblical*

Also according to Deuteronomy
chapter 29 vs 10-21
*God by Himself entered a covenant of protection, peace , guidance and perfection with the children of Israelites and also extended the covenant blessing to other religion and tribe if only they will abide and keep to is laid down instructions. But He equally gave out a punishment to those region and tribe that will disobey the terms of the convenant.

Tithing is a weapon in a convenant form that God Himself can not break if truly observed.
We shall be looking at convenanat terms in our next edition.

Remain blessed.
