Kaduna South: PDP Chieftain expresses concern over Katung’s tax evasion allegation
A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain, Abdulrasheed Dogara Kagarko has written to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, expressing fears over alleged evasion of Kaduna South Senatorial candidate, Hon. Sunday Mashall Katung.
A copy of the letter which was made available to CAPITAL POST in Abuja on Monday, Mr Kagarko, the 2023 Kaduna South Senatorial candidate who was declared winner of the primary is alleged to have tax issues with the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) which may affect the chances of the party.
The letter reads: “It is also being alleged that he operate 26 bank accounts and was requested by KADIRS to pay N140,947.115.43.
“Invariably, the Tax Clearance (FCT-IRS/TCC/B/199092140 issued on the 11th April, 2022 to him by FCT-IRS, an assessment to pay N84,000, used in the submission of expression of interest form to our great party is very questionable.
“Our concern bothers on his suitability as candidate in the forthcoming election given these allegations on his tax status.
“Attached herein as Annexures (1) & (2) is a Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) letter dated 9th May 2022 which shows a tax liability of N140,947, 115.23 (One Hundred and forty Million, Nine Hundred and Forty-seven Thousand, One Hundred and Fifteen Naira, Twenty-three Kobo) and the FCT Tax clearance FCT-IRS/TCC/B/199092140, respectively.
“This seems to us as a banana peel lying in wait to rob our great party of candidacy in the forth coming Senatorial Election in Kaduna State.
“The event of the 2019 Governorship election in Zamfara State is still very much fresh in our memory on
where our party profited from.
But this time around the reverse could just be the case.
“The most worrisome part of Annexure 1, is the 5th document our candidate was asked to produce by KADIRS which touches on his sources of income.
“No doubt it has something off its sleeves. We say this against the backdrop that KADIRS is a body controlled by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state – a party we know is capable of doing anything to grab the Kaduna South Senatorial seat.
“We must bear in mind that this is the only senatorial seat that has consistently been supporting our great party and the only one remaining for the ruling party to snatch in Kaduna state which we must not allow to happen under your good leadership.
“We the undersigned being concerned and card carrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna South Senatorial District, out of sincerity of heart, feel obliged to bring this complaint with regards to the
irregularities that characterised the electoral primaries and the the declaration of Hon. Sunday Marshall Katung as the winner.”
