Ekweremadu, wife brought underage to UK for organ harvest, remanded in prison – UK Police says
The United Kingdom Metropolitan Police on Thursday confirmed that the former Deputy Senate President of Nigeria, Senator Ike Ekwerwmadu and his wife brought an underage to UK for organ harvest.
The UK police said, the victim is below 18 years.
Earlier, Ekwerwmadu and his wife Beatrice were arrested and being detained for plotting to bring in a child from Nigeria for organ harvest.
The police claimed their plot contravened the UK law and they are being charged.
Ekwerwmadu and his wife have been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
According to UK Police, the underage has been taken into care, but the accused will appear in Court on Thursday, having been denied bail.
Organ harvesting involves removal of parts of a human for transplantation on another person against his will and this is done medically.
The security agents investigating the matter, however, concealed the identity and gender of the victim.
Ekweremadu has been in the UK for at least two weeks having met with members of the Nigerian community in Britain in Lincoln around ten days ago.
Investigation was launched into his activities after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May.
