Lalong Declares Monday, Tuesday public holiday for Voter Registration
Plateau State Governor, Barr. Simon Lalong has declared Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th June, 2022 as public holiday to enable its citizens enrol in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise.
Lalong in a press statement issued by the Secretary to Plateau State Government, Prof. Danladi Atu and made available to journalists in Jos enjoined all citizens, especially workers to take the opportunity to exercise their franchise preparatory to the 2023 general election.
According to the statement, “Plateau State Governor Barr. Simon Bako Lalong has declared Monday, 27th to Tuesday 28th June 2022 as a public holiday”
Governor Simon Lalong approved June 27th to 28th, 2022 as a work-free days to enable the citizens of the state to turn out en-masse for the ongoing INEC voters registration exercise which concludes nationwide on Thursday, 30th June 2022.
It would be recalled that last week the House of Representatives mandated the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to extend the June 30 deadline for registration by 60 days.
The House also asked INEC to deploy additional staff and voters registration machines across the country.
