INEC partners EU, CSOs over CVR campaign
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has collaborated with European Union, Civil society organizations to encourage participation of continuous voter registration exercise in the Federal Capital Territory.
INEC said it deployed more than 50 registration machines and 150 personnel for the five days of activities preceding a concert.
At a press briefing on Tuesday the five day open air registration themed “Youth Vote Count 2.0 Mega Concert” will be held on June 25, at the Old Parade Ground, Abuja.
The FCT REC Commissioner,Yahaya Bello while assuring the Nigerian youths that their vote will count in the 2023 general elections, said ” The commission has deployed more than 50 registration machines and 150 staff to support the exercise.
He also explained that “youths registering will not receive their continuous voter registration card until the first month of next year.”
On her part, European Union Program Manager, Laolu Olawumi, Said “The entire objective or the objective of the campaign is just to connect young people with centers of power to get them to be in need to be more proactive in the governance process and to begin to shift culture and perception of young people.
“And in doing this, we had to then see what are the critical elements we can bring into this campaign. Young people think about pop culture, you think about the fact that they want to connect with their celebrities, they want to be in tune with the latest technology, how can we bring that to bear in a campaign that can help us to mobilize young people and the European Union along with its partner.”
Sandra Edeh, a youth corps member commended the organisers for the initiative to help youths to collect the PVCs.
