Police arraigns traditional ruler over alleged culpable homicide in Niger
The District head of Mokwa (Ndalile),
Alhaji Mohammed Shaba Aliyu has been arraigned before Minna Magistrate Court 1 over alleged culpable homicide.
He was arraigned by the operatives of anti homicide squad of the state Criminal Investigation and Department, SCIID, of the Niger State Police Command.
Alhaji Mohammed Shaba Aliyu, allegedly used his single barrel gun and shot sporadically at some youths who were protesting against the attempted kidnapping of one Kudu Tswacha of Goverment girls Secondary School in Mokwa.
In the process, several youths sustained gun shot injuries “and as a result, one Jiya Mohammed sustained serious inquiries and was rushed to the Mokwa general hospital for treatment and later died while on admission on the 18 May, 2022.”
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Aliyu Yakubu Kuta, he was standing trial on culpable homicide, an offence which contravened section 221 of the penal code punishable by death.
Although, the presiding Chief Magistrate, Hajiya Hauwa Kulu Isah, did not take his plea, on the ground that her court lack the jurisdiction to hear the case.
She told the prosecutor to hasten up in sending the case file to the office of the Director of Public prosecution, DPP, in the office of the Attorney general in the state Ministry of Justice for legal advice.
She then adjourned the case pending the out come of the legal advise.
