Plateau collaborates on water project
The Plateau State Urban Water Supply Project, assisted by French Development Agency, have completed plans to begin an engineering design for a water project in Plateau.
The project leader, Mr Alejandro Perez, gave details while paying a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy in Jos at the weekend.
“The project is going to comprise the extension of water supply to communities in Jos and Bukuru that have no pipe network and replacement of old pipelines that were laid in 70s that frequently burst leading to the distruption of water supply to customers.
“This project will also rehabilitate two water treatment plants, namely Yakubu Gowon Water Treatment plant at Ratt and the Lamingo Water Treatment plant near British American Junction, Jos,” he said.
Perez said that the project would cover 72 kilometres and would also attract 15,000 new customers to the Jos Water Services Corporation adding to the already existing 25,000 customers.
The Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy, Mr Sa’ad Bello, while responding to the presentation of the consultant, thanked him for the completion of the engineering design for the project.
Bello urged the project team to commence work on the design immediately as the state government was concerned on the quick completion of the project.
Also speaking, the Acting Managing Director of the Jos Water Services, Mrs Stella Buge, promised the delegation that everything would be done for the work to be done according to the specifications of the design.
