7 dies in fatal car accident in Kogi

A fatal auto head collision has claimed seven lives on the spot, while five others sustained degree of injuries on Thursday in Kogi.

Kogi Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr St phwn Dawulung revealed this to journalists at a news briefing in Lokoja, saying the accident occurred at in the early hours of Thursday.

The FRSC Chief explained that a Toyota Hiace bus collide with an oncoming DAF Articulated vehicle at Akpanya community close to Koton Karfe on Abuja-Lokoja road in Kogi Local Government Council of the State.

He confirmed to newsmen that seven passengers died instantly, while five others were injured.

“Our officers, who quickly rushed to the scene when alerted, were able to assist at evacuating the victims especially the injured, for medical attention.

“Already the injured people were rushed to Koton Karfe Hospital, where they are being treated by medical personnel while the corpses are deposited at the mortuary.”

Speaking on the cause of accident, he pointed out that it was due to over speed and route violation by either of the affected driver at about 4.00am.

The FRSC sector commander advised people, especially drivers to desist from night journey and speeding while being cautious enough to maintain their lanes, to avoid road crash.
