The All Progressives Congress, APC has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan’s name on its website as the 2023 candidate for Yobe North Senatorial district.
The move is at the backdrop of Alhaji Bashir Machina’s refusal to withdraw from the race and surrender the ticket to Lawan.
Lawan who is the Senate President has been in the National Assembly from 1999 when he first started as a member in the House of Representatives.
In the letter dated June 14, addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which was leaked was received on the 15th June, 2022 at the electoral office’s headquarters in Abuja.
The party leadership dared Alhaji Bashir Machina who won the ticket at the primary election.
Alhaji Machina insisted that he would not surrender his ticket to Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan who contested for presidential primary election and lost to Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

The APC seems to have relied on a clause that required primary contenders to voluntarily resign from a race or be arbitrarily substituted by the party in certain circumstances. Mr Machina accepted the condition, but told The Gazette that as an aspirant, he did not support it.
