Running Mate: Tinubu picks Buhari’s kinsman, Masari to beat INEC deadline
The 2023 presidential flagbearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu has picked a Katsina man, Alhaji Kabir Ibrahim Masari as running mate for mean time to meet up with the INEC deadline.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had given all political parties participating in the 2023 general election to submit names of candidates on or before 17th June, 2022.
Tinubu’s running mate issue has generated contentious debate with some groups and individuals suggesting different opinions on religious inclination.
The Vice President to Tinubu, though, likely to emerge from the North East, it wasn’t confirmed, the running mate would be a Christian or Muslim, but Tinubu himself is a Muslim.
Reports said Tinubu has submitted the name of Alhaji Kabir Ibrahim Masari to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pending the outcome of the ongoing stakeholders meeting on who to permanently field as his running mate.
Masari hails from Katsina State, the homeland of President Muhammadu Buhari in the North Western Nigeria.
Once, the substantive name is concluded, reports said, the name of Masari would be changed before the general election.
Though the name of Masari was secretly submitted to INEC, a strong source close to the deal confirmed that the Katsina born politician’s name was truly submitted to INEC in the interim pending the outcome of consultations.
As part of moves to get the right person for the office of Vice President, Tinubu will on Thursday meet President Muhammadu Buhari.
