2023: Wike reacts to ‘viral video’ says he will never defect from PDP
The governor of Rivers State and presidential aspirant in the 2023 general election, Nyesom Wike has denied reports that he was planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting through a statement which was issued by his media aide, Mr Kelvin Ebiri, he explained that the trending video where the governor was threatening to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was an old one.
The statement said, the elements behind the viral video have intention to mislead the members of the public.
The statement said the video was a former interview which the governor granted when he was reacting to the defection of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, from the PDP to the APC, adding that he will never defect from PDP to the APC for any reason.
Wike said, PDP was a platform that gave him whatever he wanted in life, and could not have contemplated leaving the party.
“We urge the public to ignore the distorted video. Those behind it are desperately wicked and intend to mislead the public. Governor Wike remains a faithful, committed member of the PDP and will never leave it for the cancerous APC,” the statement read in part.
Wike came second in the presidential election which Alhaji Atiku Abubakar won and was believed to be considered a running mate to Atiku.
