Magistrate Court orders detention of arsonist in Minna
The Minna Chief Magistrate Court No1 sitting at the Judiciary complex Tuesday ordered the remand in Correctional custody of a 19 year old Abdulmajid Abubakar for alleged culpable homicide.
He was arraigned on a three count charge, bothering on criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance and culpable homicide.
The three count charges, according to the First Information Report (FIR), made available in court and obtained by our reporter in Minna showed that the offence is punishable under section 97, 114 and 221 of the penal code.
The charges read in part: “On 2nd June, 2022, at about 2230 hrs, one Bashir Idrisu of Limawa area Minna, Niger State reported at ‘A’ divisional Police Command headquarters in Minna, that on the same date, you Abdulmajid Abubakar (aka Gaye), of Ungwan Daji area of Minna criminaly conspired with others “now at large” with knives, cutlass, sticks stones and other dangerous weapons and proceeded to stadium junction area where you attacked and stabed one Mukhtar Bashir of Limawa area on his chest as a result of which the victim sustained deep cut and was rushed to the general hospital in Minna where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”
Police detective from the homicide squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), swung into action and arrested you in connection with the case. And you were identified by the complainant to be among the person who attacked and killed the deceased”.
When the charges were read to him by the Presiding Chief Magistrate, Hajiya Hauwa Kulu Isah he pleaded not guilty.
However, she told the police prosecutor, Inspector Aliyu Yakubu Kuta, to forward the case file to the Office of the Director of Public prosecutor (DPP), in the office of the Attorney General in State Ministry of Justice for legal advice.
She then ordered for his remand in Correctional custody till the outcome of the advice.
