IGP, Usman orders investigation of armed men in viral video in Lagos estate
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has ordered a thorough investigation of a viral video showing armed men suspected to have been harboured in a Housing Estate located in Badagry, Lagos.
The video claimed that the armed men were sent to kill people in the estate, but in his reaction, the IGP directed the Force Intelligence Bureau of the Nigeria Police Force and the Commissioner of Police in charge of Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, to wade into the claim immediately.
The IGP said, the Force would get to the root of the claim and possibly bring bring the originator of the video to justice, if found to be false, noting that the law allows the alarmist to be punished.
The IGP noted that the estate is the property of the Police and is occupied by men and officers and not armed men.
The statement which was signed by
the Force PRO, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi said
the Muhammadu Buhari Estate situated at Agemowo, Badagry, Lagos State, is the property of the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multipurpose Society and by extension, the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Estate is occupied by Police Officers, who purchased the property under the Police Cooperative Scheme, and their families, and not armed men as speculated in a viral video where a mischievous alarmist alleged that the estate has been invaded and dominated by armed men, in an attempt to launch an attack on Nigerians resident in Lagos State.
The Police boss described as unpatriotic the maker of the video who did that out of mischief to cause panic among Nigerians, while he urged Nigerians to disregard the.claims.
He advised the public to carry out their due diligence on any information before passing it out to avoid sentiments in the view of the nation’s multi-ethnic setting.
