2023: Osinbajo, 2 others made final list for Tuesday’s presidential primary
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has been shortlisted by the ruling All Progressives Congress governors for the presidential primary election scheduled for Tuesday beginning from 6pm at the Eagle Square, Abuja
As names of presidential aspirants was narrowed to three, other aspirants that made the list are the National leader of the APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu and the immediate past Minister of Transportation, Chief Rotimi Amaechi.
The governors fought hard to intervene following the confusion that ensued on Monday when the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Abdullahi Adamu named the Senate President, Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan as the consensus candidate.
President Muhammadu Buhari through a statement by the his Senior Special Assistant, Garba Shehu amid the confusion denied endorsing Ahmad Lawan or anyone.
He said, there shall be no imposition of candidate.
Earlier in the day, those proposed were Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Rotimi Amaechi; Governor Kayode Fayemi and Governor Dave Umahi.
But they reportedly pruned the list to three aspirants with Tinubu, Osibanjo and Amaechi making the proposed list.
However, the proposal is not a binding decision but a suggestion to Buhari who has requested them to assist prune down the 23 aspirants for consensus.
However, other aspirants, particularly Kayode Fayemi and Yahaya Bello, are kicking, saying that they are still in the race.
