Members of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday disassociate itself from the emergence of the Senate President, Ahmed Lawal as the consensus candidate.

The rebuttal is coming hours after the National Chairman of the ruling party, Abdullahi Adamu announced Lawal as the party’s consensus candidate for the APC National Convention.

Change of Name

Adamu had informed the NWC members during a meeting at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja of the anointed candidate which resulted in disagreement as some members insist that all aspirants be given a level playing ground.

Speaking to Journalists shortly after the meeting, the National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Arugugu said the choice of Lawal is not the decision of the party adding that the party National Chairman had just informed the NWC.

He said “This decision was never taken by the NWC, but an information given to the NWC. It has never been deliberated upon”.

The Organising Secretary also expressed support with the Northern Governors on shifting power to the south.
