Owo Church attack: Islamic group confirms Boko Haram’s presence in South West
Following the brutal attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo where over 50 worshippers died with several others critically injured on Sunday, an Islamic group, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) believes Boko Haram fighters are actively present in the South West.
The group condemned the dastardly act by the terrorists, but warned that
additional churches and mosques may be targeted in the future.
MURIC urged security operatives to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to Justice for attacking innocent citizens
In a statement issued by the group’s Prof. Ishaq Akinola and made available to journalists on Monday, the group said the attacks was unwarranted, inhumane, horrible, horrifying, and terrifying.
The statement reads: “We demand that the perpetrators be apprehended and prosecuted right away.”
“After their invasion into Niger and Kogi States, this latest incident provides indubitable evidence of Boko Haram’s existence in the South West,” the group added.
They called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali and Ondo State Police Command to after the killers immediately before they escape.
They added that President Buhari should
instruct the Nigerian Army and other security agents to join the search for the killers as soon as possible.
“We warn that, based on Boko Haram’s method of operation, mosques and more churches may be the next targets, as this is how they began in the North.
As a result, we request that all churches and mosques in the region be protected,” it stated.
