Catholic priest kidnapped in Kogi
A Catholic priest, Rev. Father Christopher Onotu overseeing the church in Obangede in Okehi Local Government Council of Kogi State has been kidnapped by gunmen on Saturday night.
The kidnappers made their way into the priest’s vicarage at about 9.00pm having broken the window through which they entered his room and took him away.
It wasn’t known to anyone that he has been kidnapped until the members went to the Church on Sunday morning during the first mass.
A member of the Church confirmed to select journalists that kidnappers on Saturday night took the priest away, but left his two phones while his two SIM cards were removed and taken along.
“The hoodlums went away with the priest’s car. They dropped his two phones but went with the SIM cards.”
Kidnapping of citizens has almost been on weekly basis in Kogi Central Senatorial district, even as a popular politician and a board member of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) Mr. Ozi Salami was kidnapped on his way to the mosque in Ogaminana.
A week after his abductors were yet to make contacts.
Meanwhile Kogi State Police Command was yet to react officially to Saturday’s kidnap of the Catholic priest.
However all effort to speak with the Kogi state police Command public relations officer SP William Aya proved abortive.
