Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Gumi tells FG to create Ministry of ‘Banditry’
Following the endless attacks leading to abduction of citizens in their numbers, an Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has urged the Federal government to establish a Ministry of Nomadic Affairs to address the grievances of bandits and herders terrorising the country.
The Islamic leader made the call on Wednesday at the Pastoralists and Fulbe Security Conference in Abuja with the theme “Exploring the contemporary security challenges facing pastoralists and Fulbe in Nigeria”.
It’s generally believed in Nigeria that Fulani pastoralists are responsible for kidnapping and abductions, but their umbrella body has been denying their involvement.
The event was jointly organised by Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and Northern Consensus Movement (NCM).
Gumi argued that if the militants could force the Federal government to create Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, a Ministry should also be established to address Fulani herders, bandits and so on for there to be peace in Nigeria.
