On January 31 2022, the EFCC slammed Okorocha with 17-count charge for stealing N2.9 billion when he was governor of Imo State.

The EFCC insisted that Okorocha while governing Imo State conspired with others including a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and five companies to steal N2.9 billion public funds belonging to Imo State government.

Okorocha, and other defendants listed are Anyim Nyerere Chinenye, Naphtali International Limited, Perfect Finish Multi Projects Limited, Consolid Projects Consulting Limited, Pramif International Limited, and Legend World Concepts Limited.

Meanwhile, the ani-graft agency last week Tuesday forcefully arrested Rochas Okorocha after laying siege on him for seven hours.

EFCC said, its operations was based on the Imo West Senator to surrender himself after several notices to him to attend his trial

Okorocha had approached the court with an ex parte motion on Friday seeking bail on the grounds that he is a presidential hopeful on the platform of the APC and that his political ambition would be jeopardised if not granted bail.

However, Inyang Ekwo, the judge, refused the bail application.

Instead, the judge ordered Okorocha to put the federal government on notice to appear in court to defend his detention.

Okorocha is a presidential aspirant for the 2023 general election on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
