Ex-Zamfara governor, Yari arrested in connection with AGF’s N80 billion fraud
The former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with the alleged N80 billion fraud which the Accountant General of the Federation Ahmed Idris was being detained.
The arrest of the former governor followed the ongoing investigation of Idris by the operatives of the anti-graft agency.
The Accountant General was arrested two weeks ago and has since been suspended from office by the Minister of Finance, Mrs Zainab Ahmed.
Meanwhile, operatives of the EFCC stormed Yari’s residence in Abuja on Sunday and picked him up. Report said the former governor was taken to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and was expected to be grilled from Monday.
Reports indicated that the former Zamfara governor was suspiciously involved in N20 billion part of the fraud which the Accountant General was being detained.
A source said, suspicious transactions between Mr Idris and Mr Yari were “in the area of 20 billion Naira”.
Yari contested the APC primaries for Zamfara West Senatorial district and won.
