PDP presidential primaries: Wike yet to congratulate Atiku, may emerge VP
The Peoples Democratic Party Primaries has been contested, won and lost, but the second runner up and Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, was yet to congratulate the winner of presidential primaries Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
The former Vice President scored 371 votes to emerge winner of the presidential ticket, while Nyesom Wike came behind 237 votes in the election primaries that was held on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, there are reports that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party was considering Rivers governor as running mate to Atiku as discussion to that effect commenced immediately, CAPITAL POST gathered on Sunday.
After the primaries early Saturday, the leadership of PDP went into a meeting which was championed by the former Senate President, David Bonaventure Mark and the meeting went throughout the night and arrive at making Nyesom Wike the Vice President.
Reports from the National Congress indicated that Wike was leading until Sokoto State governor, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal stepped down for Atiku and urged his delegates to vote for Atiku, thereby changing the political equation in favour of Atiku.
Before the delegates election started, Wike was quoted to have promised to support whoever emerged winner of the presidential election, but 14 hours after, he hasn’t congratulated the winner, neither did he reject the outcome.
The source said about three persons were considered for the VP slot, but Wike was the favourite.
“Wike, Udom and Anyim were considered for the VP slot, but the majority went for Wike.
“The last decision would be taken and made public after the APC primaries next week. “I assure you that it is either Wike or someone from the southwest that would deputize Atiku.”
