2023 Niger PDP governorship primaries: Kantigi wins
The postponed Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election was conducted on Thursday in a peaceful atmosphere with Hon. Isah Liman Kantigi beating four other aspirants to pick the ticket of the party.
Liman Kantigi who scored a total votes of 667 to beat other aspirants was declared the winner by the Chairman Electoral Commitee of the party, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudkjakpo who is als the deputy governor Bayelsa State.
Other aspirants, arch rival, Sani Idris Kutigi scored a total. votes of 114. Engr.Abdullahi Jankara scored 21 votes, while Barrister has 3 votes; Hon Abdul Sidi Guni had 0 votes and 3 invalid votes.
While declaring Kantigi as the winner of the primaries, the Chairman of the primaries committee Lawrence Ewhrudkjakpo said 898 voters were accredited.
He however, condoled the goverment and people of Niger State over the killing of 4 delegates by armed bandits.
“Our heart goes to those who were killed by bandits while on their way to Minna, for the party primaries. our condolences to the PDP and also the Niger State goverment” he said.
Hon. Sani Kutigi who is the arch rival described the primaries election as peaceful and transparent, assuring that he will remain in the party and work with the winner so that party can emerge victorious at the general election.
“I’m okay with the whole process of the election. It is transparent. I’m satisfied I and my supporters will remain in the party and work with the winner so that we can emerge victorious at the general election”, he said.
