Kaduna PDP governorship primaries: Thugs beat up delegates, ceases N400,000 bribe, phones
Delegates for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State were reportedly attacked by thugs who earlier had hints of N400,000 bribe offered them by some governorship aspirants.
Kaduna State PDP held its governorship primaries on Wednesday night at the Ahmadu Bello gymnastics stadium, Kaduna.
Trouble started when thugs waited patiently into the dead of the night outside the stadium and unknowingly to delegates that each of them have been marked by thugs, were approached to surrender money and phones after the end of the Congress.
A source who actively participated in the election primaries revealed to CAPITAL POST on Thursday, that as thugs were waiting outside the stadium, others were inside the stadium monitoring the sharing of money by some aspirants.
“Truly money exchange hands; delegates were offered bribe by some aspirants who were desperate to clinch return ticket, but as faye would have it, thugs took them one by one outside the stadium.
“They beat hell of them, collect the money from who they could as well as their phones”, a source confirmed to DAILY POST.
He said, Police intervention came late after which many delegates lost money and phones even as they swooped on them in their numbers.
Meanwhile, Honourable Isah Ashiru was declared winner in the early hours of Thursday in a keenly contested primary election.
Former Senator who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani lost the election as he scored two votes.
Sani on Tuesday issued a statement that he would not offer bribe to any delegate to vote for him as governorship candidate in the 2023 election, insisting that it wasn’t part of his life tondo that.
In a statement he issued to journalists in Kaduna while preparing for the election, Sani categorically maintained that he was contesting governorship in the interest of the people who he believed deserves better governance and urged delegates to vote for him.
As the governorship candidate having beaten Sani, Ramallan Yero and others, Hon. Ashiru is poised to face the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and other minority party candidates in 2023 general election.
It was also recalled that some drama of sorts also rocked the aftermath of the House of Representatives primaries of PDP in Kaduna where a candidate who reportedly offered bribe for votes lost the ticket and later resorted to pursuing delegates with hunters and vigilantes for refund.
He was said to have recovered over N100 million before the morning of Wednesday.
