Breaking: Kogi PDP Senatorial primaries: Teejay Yusuf scores 163, beats Dino silly
Member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Teejay Yusuf has polled 163 votes to beat Senator Dino Melaye ‘silly’, who polled 99 votes in Tuesday’s Kogi West Senatorial District primary election rerun.
CAPITAL POST earlier reported that both scored 88 votes apiece on Monday leading to a rerun on Tuesday.
Senator Melaye who is popularly known as “automobile Senator”, in Kogi West because of his love for flashy cars contested for primaries on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to return to the upper legislative Chamber in 2023.
He claimed to have won a Senatorial seat in 2019 against Senator Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before he was knocked out through election tribunal that ended at the Court of Appeal.
His ouster pave way for the swearing in of Senator Adeyemi of the APC who was also contesting for a return APC ticket. If Adeyemi eventually scaled through, he would have been in the Senate for the fourth time in 2023.
Reacting to the development, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Adeyemo Lanre told CAPITAL POST that the election was keenly contested and was free and fair.
He however described Dino Melaye’s defeat as “good riddance to bad rubbish”. “The election was free and fair, but Dino’s defeat was much expected, even as it is good riddance to bad rubish.”
Lanre called on Kogi West constituents to identify with PDP and vote its candidates at all levels especially in Kogi State.
