Abia 2023 PDP primaries: State Assembly Speaker wins Reps ticket

The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chinedum Orji on Sunday won the House of Representatives ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s primary election.

The State Assemblies and the House of Representatives primary elections took place across the country with that of Abia State heavily guarded by security agents.

The election which supposed to start by 9.00am was delayed until 2.45, before it eventually held without any crisis anywhere.

The Federal Constituency being contested is Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South.

Orji pulled 86 votes to defeat five other contestants and his closest rival, Mr Obi Aguocha, scored eight votes.

Chidebere Nwachukwu, John Nwadinobi, John Ndubuisi and Kelechi Onuzuruike pulled two, two, one and nil, respectively.
The Election Committee Chairman, Mr Tony Mezie, said that 99 delegates took part in the exercise.
