Governor Simon Lalong, Plateau State House of Assembly, APC stakeholders and delegates in the state have endorsed the former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as their preferred APC presidential candidate.
Lalong who is the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, said, Plateau State will not support a Northern candidate for presidency because Ameachi has demonstrated leadership capacity as the backbone of Plateau.
Governor Lalong stated this on Thursday night when he received the presidential aspirant at the New Government House Jos.
“Rt. Hon. Amaechi has been a great pillar of Plateau State, when we join APC in Plateau State, it was him that gave us money for registration and also supported us during elections to take over Plateau State. Many people today that are presidential aspirant when we visited them at that time told us we were going nowhere in Plateau, even those from the Northern Nigeria, so because of Amaechi we in Plateau will not support a northern candidate”.
Lalong added that Amaechi had supported all the Northern states with N100million each for APC registration and deserved to be supported for presidency.
According to Lalong, Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and the former Minister of Transportation is eminently qualified to take over the mantle of leadership from President Muhammadu Buhari, come 2023.
“Amaechi has track records as a two term Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Chairman of Nigeria’s Conference of Speakers of State Assemblies, two term Rivers State Governor, Chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum; 2015 and 2019 Director General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, coupled with his impressive performance as the Minister of Transportation.
Lalong said Amaechi’s great experience in governance has given him the edge above any other 2023 Presidential aspirant in APC.
Also speaking the APC Chairman in the State, Hon. Rufus Bature, ALGON Chairman Hon. Alex Naantuam and the APC Women Leader, Hon. Alice Dimlong all noted that Amaechi has been a great supporter of Plateau, and the delegates has no choice than to vote for him during the presidential primaries.
However, to make the endorsement of Amaechi valid for all delegates during his visit to Jos, the Majority Leader of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Daniel Nanlong moved the motion for his endorsement and was seconded by former Deputy Speaker, Hon. Baba Hassan and affirmed by the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Sanda.
