Borno Police defuse bomb planted by suspected Boko Haram in Dalori IDPs camp
Borno State Police Command said it has successfully defused a bomb planted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists or Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) members at Dalori Internally Displaced Persons Camp(IDPs) located along Konduga -Bama road at the outskirts of Maiduguri metropolis.
The Borno State Commissioner of Police, CP Abdu Umar, disclosed this on Monday at a press briefing in his office at the Police Command Headquarters Maiduguri while addressing journalists on the incident.
CP Umar also noted that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), personnel of the Borno State Police command were immediately dispatched to the scene for disposal and evacuation when the intelligence reached the police authorities before it could cause any havoc.
According to him, the bomb fear started at about 6:00 am when an item concealed in a sack was thought to be an Improvised Explosive Device and spotted within the vicinity creating fear and panic as IDPs at the camp abandoned their shelters and fled for safety from the camp which is nearer to the University of Maiduguri and Dalori and Dangote Housing Estates on the opposite direction.
“An unidentified element suspected to be an IED planted inside a plastic bucket with a panel close to the fence of the camp by suspected insurgents was discovered.
“The IED was successfully diffused by the EOD team without causing any casualties,” Umar said
He further disclosed that the general area has been sanitized by personnel of the EOD department and confirmed safe for normal activities while appealing to the residents of the area and IDPs to return to their homes and business places as normalcy has returned to the area.
