Borno youths raises alarm over threat of loosing jobs, appeal for free, fair party primaries
Guzamala Youths in Borno State have raised the alarm over threats of loosing their jobs for supporting their choice of political party other than political party of aspirants that are currently serving in office under the APC.
A statement issued and signed by Comrade Sanusi Zannah Busami, the Chairman of Guzamala Social Media Forum made available to journalists Sunday in Maiduguri stated that the Speaker, BOrno State House if Assembly (BOSHA), Him.
Abdulrahman Lawan who has served the Guzamala LGA of the state as member representing Guzamala LGC State Constituency at the BOSHA for over 12 years, but has no personal residence or single house belonging to him in the local government area which he represents is threatening his constituents to vote for him to continue in office or face the wrath of loosing their jobs , especially, civil servants and teachers.
it further appealed to the ruling APC in the state to do everything possible to ensure a hitch free, fair, just and credible party primaries devoid of manipulation or disfranchisement of electorate who are prepared to effect a change of baton in their legislative representation at the State Assembly during the forthcoming party primaries having not being fitted for 12 years.
The statement added that on 13th May 2022, the group disclosed their fears to Guzamala Social Media Forum in an interactive session with the hope that their voices would be amplified and heard for urgent intervention and solutions.
According to the statement, the youths group leader lamented heavily and critically on the political issues bedeviling the LGC where his explanations circulated around on how they were politically marginalized to the extend that their opinions were no longer considered neither the youths were carried along in the scheme of things affecting the LGC relating to their participation in party primaries.
“It is electioneering time and we all have our choices. It’s the right time to make it happen differently. Enough is enough.
For every constituent to benefit from their elected house member, series of infrastructures, centers for skills or youths empowerment program have to be established among others. But story is the case with us in Guzamala LGC. It is different from what is going on in other local government areas of the state.
“One of the member of this group even had bitter experience with the Speaker, saying,” There was a time our people in the IDPs camp solicited for support from the Hon. Speaker but he ignored him,. Only for one Barrister. BG Zannah, who later helped us through out a case in court”.
“Besides all these, the Hon. Speaker who has served as a member for over 12 years has no house belonging to him in the local government area that he is representing.
“This indicates negligence and we can’t do with him anymore . We can not tolerate this again. Other members of the youths group also said ,”The problem now is that , if you support someone else,, there is threat that, you or any member of your family will get fired from the local government civil service for going against the Hon. Speaker”.
“Imagine the kind of life these people are facing!. We appeal to APC leadership to do justice and allow free and fair party primary elections in the LGC rather than imposing any aspirant or candidate in us or favouring the Hon. Speaker because we are tired of him and he has not done anything to us neither deliver any dividend if democracy to his constituency.
“For the fear that no one can contest election in the LGC from other political parties , only for one courageous Barrister, Zannah whose father had contributed immensely to the progress and development of Guzamala LGC a lot,” the statement added.
