Taskforce to midwife Constitution reforms to meet in Abuja
The Emergency Political Reforms Dialogue on the Constitutional Future of Nigeria holding on Thursday at Yar’adua Centre, Abuja on Thursday received major groundswell during the week from the support and goodwill of key stakeholders and Eminent Nigerians
Some of those who gave the historic Confab their support and goodwill during the week are former Head of State, General Abdusalami Abubakar, former Secretary General of Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, SCIA, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, Former President Atiku Abubakar, Cardinal John Onayekan, President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN , Dr Olasupo Adeniyi Ayokunle.
In a statement which was signed by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Head, Media and Publicity confirmed that
the former Head of State, Abubakar Abdusalami, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Atiku Abubakar, John Onayekan, Ayo Adebanjo, Ango Abdullahi, Bisi Akande, Sultan, SCIA, Ayokunle, CAN, Nwabueze, Obong Attah, NEF, Diasporans, Afenifere, Eminent Nigerians express goodwill and support for the National Confab 2022.
Others are elderstatesmen, Tanko Yakassai, former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah, former President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, former Chairman of NDDC, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba, Leader of Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Leader of Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Prof Ango Abdullahi, Faculty Director of the Fix Politics Initiative, Prof Remi Sonaiya, key leaders of Nigerians in Diaspora, who are already home bound to participate in the historic Confab, among other delegates nominated by the Confab selection council to attend the national conference.
Similarly, some leading presidential aspirants, who are presently in the race to get their party tickets for the 2023 elections expressed strong enthusiasm to address the Confab on Thursday.
These include, former Vice President, Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Obot Akpabio, Lady Patience Ndidi of the PRP, who were among those who made early confirmations to intervene at the National Convergence initiated to pave way for a peaceful and successful elections in 2023.
It will be recalled that the all inclusive non partisan multi Stakeholders’ National Political Reforms Dialogue on the Constitutional Future of Nigeria is convened by a distinguished body of esteemed Statesmen and women and eminent leaders of thought under the auspices of the Nigeria Political Summit Group, NPSG working in conjunction with a respectable group of elders and leaders of Conscience under the umbrella of National Consultative Front, NCFront with support from some civil society platforms in Nigeria.
Addressing members of the National Organizing Committee of the 2022 National Dialogue on Sunday, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 2022 National Dialogue, Prof Pat Utomi expressed optimism that both President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Prof Yemi Osibajo, who have been duly invited, will attend the non partisan, multi stakeholders emergency Confab to receive the support of Leaders of Thought and Political Stakeholders from across sectional lines towards steering the country on the track of cohesion, stability, security and prosperity by reclaiming the soul of the country from the current strangulation of heightening acrimony, distrust, insecurity, instability, political tension, violence, unimaginable killings and anarchy ahead of the forthcoming general elections in 2023,
Speaking further Utomi clarified that the Thursday’s gathering has been conceived as a critical summit of an inclusive platform of diverse stakeholders to negotiate and harmonise zonal and sectoral agenda for national consensus in taking effective advantage of the ongoing constitution review process of the Nigerian National Assembly, which was why the leadership of the National Assembly has been invited to interface with Nigerian Leaders at the Conference.
Meanwhile, the Secretariat of one of the convening platforms, Nigeria Political Summit Group, NPSG speaking on behalf of the Conveners also announced on Sunday that the Confab will now be flagged off at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre, Abuja at 9am on Thursday and that the Confab shall be constituting a National Harmonisation Panel of Eminent Leaders and Stakeholders during the plenary to fastrack zonal and state dialogue for broad consensus on the constitutional future of Nigeria as a means of making the historic national intervention a panacea for all time.
