Police arrests one suspect for setting trailer loaded with cows on fire in Anambra

Anambra State Police Command has announced that a suspect has been arrested in connected with a trailer loaded with livestock that was set on fire in Aguata, Anambra State on Sunday.

The Police confirmed the arrest in a statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu on Sunday, saying that one of the passenger of the trailer, who is identified as Mohammed Lawan has also been rescued.

The also disclosed that 34 cattles were recovered by police operatives following a distress call.

The unknown gunmen attacked a trailer conveying livestock on Sunday and set it ablaze around Ezinifite and Uga boundary/expressway in Aguata.

The statement said: “The Command rescued one Mohammed Lawan ‘M’ of Taraba State and recovered thirty-four livestock within Ezinifite and Uga boundary/expressway in Aguata LGA.

“The rescue followed a distress call today 8/5/2022 at about 8am of a suspected arson and cruelty to animal by gunmen.

“Preliminary information reveals that the victim were on transit, conveying livestock to Awarasi, Uga Aguata LGA.

He said police operatives are currently in the area, normalcy has been restored and the situation is being monitored.”

The suspect is currently assisting the police with further information on the arsonists that perpetrated the criminal act.
