ASUU ends warning strike to begin indefinite strike
As the two month warning strike of the Association of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU ends on Monday, 9th May, the Union was now set to commence indefinite strike.
ASUU would make an official statement to that effect on Monday after the two month warning strike comes to end, according to source close to the leadership of the Union.
The National Executive Committee, (NEC), which is the highest organ of the Union was said to have given the go-ahead to the national leadership to mobilise members for indefinite strike, if their demands are not met by the Federal government within the period of the warming strike.
The Federal government was undeterred by the warning strike for two months, hen e, there was nothing tangible it has brought to table to solve the lingering ASUU strike until indefinite strike would be declared tomorrow.
The Unions are the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Allied Institutions, NASU.
Nigeria’s tertiary institutions are currently grounded due to strike with students in public institutions at the receiving end.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, had met with the leadership of SSANU, NAAT, and NASU, and his Education counterpart, Adamu Adamu seems not to have shown commitment, hence, there was nothing concrete that came out of meetings with the striking lecturers.
