All is not well with the Kogi State embattled Speaker, Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole, following the discovery that he has been playing pranks on Gov. Yahaya Bello and his presidential aspiration, CAPITAL POST reports.
Recalled that the Speaker has since lost favour face with the members of the House of Assembly over what they termed ” wholesale of their interests.
Few weeks ago, it took the intervention of some prominent persons who averted a face-off between the Speaker and his Deputy Speaker at the Campaign Council headquarters of Gov. Bello in Abuja.
The Deputy Speaker was said to have accused the Speaker of shortchanging members and using proceeds from such betrayal to fester his business empire, building massive hotels and night clubs.
Recalled that the State House of Assembly under the leadership of Prince Kolawole is described by many as the worst Assembly the State has ever had.
The Speaker is alleged to have ran into trouble waters following discoveries that all his tours to some states to mobilize serving and former Assembly members for the Governors Presidential aspiration was a fluke.
The bubble bursted when the Campaign Council of the Governor was constituted, chose to invite the serving and former Assembly members to the Governor’s function in Abuja through a travel agency, only to discover that over 70 names he submitted for invitation were all fictitious.
It was discovered that over time the Speaker was in the habit of going to Gwagwalada and near by communities of Abuja and Nasarawa State to mobilize support for the Governor’s aspiration, claiming that they are serving and former Assembly members.
Worried by the stupendous amount spent on the return tickets of those invited by the Campaign Council, some commercial and business classes, running into billions of Naira, the Campaign Council drew the attention of the Governor to the discovery, a revelation that angered the Governor.
Ordinarily, the amount would have allegedly been handed over to the Speaker, and he would as usual imported fake persons as Serving and former Assembly Members, a plot discovered has been his practice since he started the tour of States for Gov. Bello.
For now the anger of the Governor on the Speaker can better be imagined as he has all the while discovered that his intelligence has been taken for granted by the Speaker.
The action is seen as many as a threat to the House of Representatives Aspiration of the Speaker following the loss of confidence and the call by many which the Governor has surpressed that even if given the ticket he may not deliver the APC for Kabba Bunu Ijumu Federal Constituency.
Already the members of the Assembly have started collating signatures for the his impeachment as many of them had thought that their loyalty would have earned them a return ticket to the Assembly.
For now the Speaker is between the devil and deep blue sea, trying to save his head from the Governor and the Assembly Members even as the electorates are also waiting on one hand.
All efforts to reach out to the Speaker through his media aide, Femi Olugbemi on phone proved abortive as he could not be reached.
