UK firm, others set $500 million aside to tackle unemployment in Nigeria
A United Kingdom based firm, HP Kapital Limited, and FHT Ventures PLC have revealed plans to intervene in the high rate of unemployment among the youngsters in Nigeria.
At the backdrop of this, they set aside the sum of $500 million to be injected into the empowerment of over 70 million Nigerians, particularly the youths.
The plan, they revealed on Tuesday, would stop medical tourism abroad and further stabilise Nigeria’s health industry, according to the Group Chairman of HP Kapital UK, Mr Nandishwar Kaushal, who spoke at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said the sum of $500 million which is equivalent of N3billion has been sourced from World Bank and other global development institutions as take off fund, noting that the intervention will focus on
critical areas of youth unemployment and medical tourism abroad by Nigerians.
Kaushal noted: Nigeria for several years now, has not been fully supported the way it deserves, particularly in the area of Youth empowerment or engagement and World Class Medical Centres where any form of health challenge can be diagonistically and clinically attended to.”
He revealed that hectares of land has been secured in Abuja, Lagos, Bauchi, Enugu and Niger States for establishment of World Class Hospitals and Tertiary Institutions with technology and skills – driven curriculum.
He added that the health centres would be self sustained in terms of electricity and will render professional services in line with Nigeria’s medical healthcare delivery system.
“For the teeming unemployed youth in the country, empowerment programmes in the areas of Agriculture, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), will be carried out and a projected 10 million youth entrepreneurs and 60 million others, will gainfully be empowered.”
“The intervention plan will also help government at various levels to practically address the 20 million Housing deficit in the country with building of affordable houses for the needy “, he said.
Also, the Chairman of FHT Ventures, Prince Olubunmi Faboro, corroborated, saying that some relevant government agencies have been contacted and were willing to key into the plan.
In the similar vein, Hon Osita Opara, a chaterred broker and projects coordinator for the intervention plans, said 18 hectares of land in Guzape, Abuja , have been secured for World Class Hospital, and a 13 hectares of land in Guzape Extension, have been secured for Hotels Malls and offices .
“Others are 30 hectares of land in Lagos, 1.7 hectares of land in Central Business District, Abuja for building of 22 Storey structure with residential, hotel and offices compartments”, he noted.
