Eid-il-Fitr: Niger Command of NSCDC deploys 1,750 Operatives across the State
The Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on Monday at the Minna Eid praying ground deployed a total of 1,750 of its men for an operational duty to ensure smooth and hitch free Eid-fitr festival.
This was disclosed by the Commandant of the Corps in the State, Mr.Garba Aliyu Bature in a press release issued and signed by the acting Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr Yunusa Mohammed in Minna.
According to the Commandant, the NSCDC in Niger State has the duty to ensure the security of lives and property of worshippers during and after the celebration which informed the deployment of the men.
He noted that some criminally minded elements may take the advantage of the festival to perpetrate various nefarious activities in the State and the Command would not take any chance.
He maintained that the Command took the measure to beef-up security coverage to safeguard lives and property as well as to maintain law and order “before, during and after the festive period across the state”.
Equally, Mr Aliyu Bature stated that the area Commandants and their respective Area Divisional Officers (ADOs) across the 25 Local Government Areas of the State were directed to maintain vigilance and fortify surveillance in and around worshiping grounds, recreational centres and children amusement parks to ensure hitch free celebration of the Sallah festival.
The actions of the State Command of NSCDC may not be unconnected with the recent alarm raised by the Department of the State Service (DSS) that the Service has uncovered plan by some group of terrorists to attack some selected States in the North during the Eid-fitr festival.
The head of Information and Public Affairs Department of the Service, Dr Peter Afunanya had in a press statement early last week alerted that the DSS has uncovered a dangerous move by some group of terrorists to cause havock during the Muslims festival of Eid-fitr in some parta of the North, warned that Nigerians should be at alert to avert any possible security threats in their respective areas.
Similarly, the Command, according to the State Commandant of the Corps. apart from the operational men of the Corps intelligence squads and rapid response squad of the Command were drafted to the various round about, the four entry points to the state capital to monitor the movement of vehicles coming into the state.
The State Commandant further disclosed that the state command of the corps, as part of synergy with other sisters agencies in the state, is working with men of the Niger State Police command, men of the Department of the State Service, DSS, men of the Nigeria Army, men of the Nigeria Airfoce and other relevance security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property of citizens.
Mr. Bature insisted that the joint effort of the other sisters agencies in the state was aimed at checkmating the unfriendly activities of religious extremists, political thugs, terrorist group,and kidnappers and other criminally minded elements in the State.
He appealed to religious, community leaders and other critical stakeholders in the state to always provide relevant Informations to the appropriate security agencies to swiftly nip in the bud any possible security breach in the State.
