FIFA punishes Nigeria over riotous act of fans

Nigeria has.been punished by the world football governing body (FIFA) for the riotous act of football fans that happened on 29th March, 2022 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

Fans took over the stadium and began to destroy facilities minutes after Nigeria’s clash against Ghana with 1-1.

The Super Eagles hosted Ghana in the second encounter of the 2022 world cup qualification after the first encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi Ghana.

The world football governing body tasked Nigeria to pay CHF 150,000 which is equivalent of ₦63m for the trouble their fans caused after their World Cup playoff clash against Ghana.

CAPITAL POST recalled that the 60,000 capacity crowd at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, vented their anger and destroyed facilities they could lay their hands when it became obvious that Nigeria could not make it to the World cup this year.

In the milieu, security agents whisked Ghanaian players to safety before destruction of properties in the pitch started.

FIFA also ordered that African Nations cup slated for June between Nigeria and Sierra leone would be played without a single fan in the stadium.
