Youth group partners with NEPC on promotion of ‘Zero-oil export’

The Committee of Youths on Mobilization and Sensitization (CYMS) is collaborating with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) to promote ‘Zero-oil export’ and encourage entrepreneurship in the country.

This was disclosed by the Director-General of CYMS, Mr Obinna Nwaka, in a statement sent to CAPITAL POST on Sunday after his team paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of NEPC.

Change of Name

The aim of the visit was targeted towards identifying and mobilising young entrepreneurs as well as creating awareness on the need to divert their attention from oil export.

The Director General said it was important to project to the world, the creativities and productivities of the Nigerian youth to secure patronage for their Made-in-Nigeria products and services as well as encourage the economic diversification from over-dependence on oil into manufacturing, production and exportation of non-oil products to accelerate economic growth.

According to him, promoting of such would reduce unemployment and restiveness among the youth.

“We are here to inform you about our forthcoming national conference, trade-show coming up in July in Houston and the need for partnership with the council.

“We want the council to be part of our programmes in order to encourage the Nigerian youths on the importance of Zero-oil export.

“The awareness of ‘Zero-oil export’ is very important especially in the South-South and South-Eastern part of the country where most of their indigenes involve in illegal oil activities which recently led to the fire hazard that burnt over 200 persons in Imo.

“We will like to be part of the creation of policies, implementation of policies, so that youths can be part of your activities”, he said.

On a gender contribution, the CYMS’s Director, Socials and Empowerment, King Tonto Dikeh emphasized on more grassroots awareness, gender inclusion and constant engagement of the organisation.

The CYMS also presented an award of Icon of Peace in Nigeria to the Executive Director ahead of their forthcoming National Conference in collaboration with office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) where the he (NEPC ED) will also be delivering a paper on Zero Export.

On his part, Dr Ezra Yakusak, Executive Director, NEPC, appreciated the group for the visit and assured of the council’s readiness to partner with the group.

Yakusak, who was initially represented by Ms Estelle Igwe, Director, National Export Office, NEPC, assured the group of their participation in the International Trade show and also charged the them to help sensitise Nigerian youths and entrepreneurs on the activities of the council.

Other CYMS Officials who joined the visit were Mallam Shamsudeen Haruna, Director Planning & Strategy, Prince Boluwaji Adeyemi, Director Logistics, Abubakar Abba Abdullahi, Director, Special Duties, Taiye Akintola, Administrative Officer.
