2023: The rise and rise of ‘human rituals’ by politicians in Niger – Findings

As the 2023 general election draws closer, the activities of some criminal elements believed to be ritualists have been reported in some parts of Niger State, CAPITAL POST authoritatively gathered.

The areas where the activities of the ritualists are so prounced in the last four weeks, include Makera, in Lavun Local Government Area, Sabon Wuse, in Tafa Local Government, Bisanti in Katcha Local Government Pago in Paikoro Local Government and some parts of Minna, the State capital.

Change of Name

It was reliably gathered that these ritualists carry out their nefarious activities along the grave yards where they exhume the already buried bodies.

As a result of the increasing rate of the activities of these ritualists, some communities within the grave yards have laid siege aim at apprehending any of the ritualists.

Already their siege have yielded a fruitful result with the arrest of three of the suspected ritualists in Adunu area of Paikoro Local Government by some men of the local vigilante group who were on routine patrol in the area.

Hamisu Danmusa, Bala Yushau, and Ibrahim Salha all from Katsina State were intercepted by watchful men of the local vigilante corps when their movement became suspicious in the community.

It was gathered that during their arrest a Ghana must go bag in their possession contained some parts of bodies believed to have been exhumed from the grave yard.

During interrogation by the vigilante men , they both admitted exhuming the bodies from the grave yard and they were alleged to have been contracted by some prominent politicians in the state.

They told their interrogators that they were given the sums of N250,000 out of N1 million agreed upon by the politicians.

Several calls put to the police public Relations Officer (PPRO), Wasiu Abiodun DSP was not responded.

However, a senior officer in the State command headquarters of the vigilante corps who crave for anonymity told CAPITAL POST that the three suspects are undergoing some questionings “after which they will handed over to the Police for further investigation.

“They are given us very useful information about their activities in Niger State ahead of 2023 general election.”

Apart from exhumation of dead bodies in the graveyards in some part of Niger State, they were reported cases of missing persons in the last three months in Minna, the Niger State capital.

Most of the reported cases of missing persons, findings revealed that they have not been seen or re-united with their beloved ones, but only to discover some have been killed and some parts being removed for ritual purposes.

So far, CAPITAL POST gathered that not fewer than 12 of such cases were recorded within the last three months with women and children within the ages of six to ten being victims.
